Tea Pet

$30.00

Lovingly and skillfully sculpted by local small business Wild Things Pottery!

Tea pets are adorable little figurines, usually in the shape of animals, traditionally used in Chinese culture during Gongfu (a Chinese-style of drinking tea). One shares their tea with their “pet” by pouring a small amount of tea onto the pet during a tea session. Over time your tea pet will become darker and absorb the lovely aromas of the tea! In Chinese culture, the darker the tea pet the better, as this means a person drinks a lot of tea and implies higher social status. Sometimes the figurines represent different things like good luck, but mostly they are just super cute and fun! Lucky for us, tea pets can be used not just with Gongfu, but any time and any way you choose to drink tea!

Keep them near as you drink tea to keep you company and share them with your loved ones!

Care instructions: Do not wash your tea pet! Make sure you let your tea pet fully dry in open air between sessions. Have fun!

Disclaimer: As these were made locally in Maryland, they are not made with YiXing clay, which is the traditional type of clay a tea pet would be made with in China. These YiXing pets are much more expensive when made properly (and worth saving for if you so choose!). Our tea pets are a local and more affordable but still high quality option! :)
